Born in Nottingham, Andrew McLeish honed his foundational skills by earning a Chef’s Diploma at Clarendon College. Following an early role at a boutique restaurant in Bray, his talent led him to work alongside legendary chef Nico Ladenis at Simply Nico, before transferring to the acclaimed Chez Nico in 1991 as Chef de Partie
In 1993, Andrew joined the iconic Hotel The Ritz as Sous Chef, further refining his classical techniques. Drawn by the opportunity to explore international flavours, he later transferred to the prestigious Mandarin Oriental Baan Taling Ngam on the Thai island of Koh Samui as Senior Sous Chef.
Returning to London two years later, he took up a prominent position at The Dining Room within the Landmark Hotel. His exceptional reputation soon led to him being headhunted to take the helm at Chapter One, where he proudly established his vision for modern European fine dining.
Under Andrew’s leadership, Chapter One has achieved remarkable success, earning widespread industry recognition. His commitment to showcasing seasonal, local produce secured the establishment four AA Rosettes and the highly coveted title of ‘AA UK Restaurant of the Year’—an unprecedented dual achievement at the time. More recently, his dedication to culinary brilliance was celebrated with the ‘Restaurant of the Year’ title at the Kent Life and Kent on Sunday Food and Drink Awards.
